Brazilian percussionist, HELCIO MILITO has been a major figure in Brazilian music for the past 5 decades. He has been credited with introducing the hypnotizing beat of the BOSSA NOVA, that ignited the imaginations of musicians all over the world, in 1958. Helcio also created an entirely new concept in drumming by designing his own drum set, called the TAMBA. His band, the TAMBA TRIO, was the first to bring the music of Brazil’s legendary composers to the world, was named after his instrument. They were also the first band to record “The Girl from Ipanema“ in the early 60’s.
He recently designed a new Tamba drum set, along with brushes and an instruction book. The new Tamba is being manufactured in Brazil and will be on the market sometime in mid 2007.
